Graduation will take place in the Thomas Murphy Ballroom at the Georgia World Congress Center. The Ballroom is located in BUILDING B. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00am and lasts approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours.
Candidates should arrive by 8:30 am for commencement. Graduates proceed directly to Room B309.
VIP ticketed Guests may begin arriving at 8:30am for seating. Please remember that each graduate is given (4) VIP Guest Tickets in advance. Guests may begin arriving at 9:00am. Guests are asked to be seated 15 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.
Garage Parking - RED
Surface Lot - Yellow
Guests can park either in the RED DECK or Yellow Lot. Both areas will give you access to Building B.
RED Parking Deck is $15.00.
YELLOW Lot is $10.00.
Accessibility- Each parking lot/deck at the GWCC has reserved disabled parking spaces.
Sign language interpretation is available for those with hearing impairments.
If you are traveling from the red or gold line, such as from the airport, transfer at Five Points to a westbound train marked Bankhead or H.E. Holmes and ride one stop to the Dome MARTA station. Take the Philips Arena exit out of the station and turn left at street level to enter the courtyard that is in front of the Georgia Dome. Keep right around Philips Arena to reach the Georgia World Congress Center.
Candidates will assemble at 8:30 a.m. in the designated room upon arrival. Candidates must check-in, at which time they will be given a card with their name and any honors they are receiving printed on it. Hold on to this card, this is how your name will be called when you cross the stage.
DRESS CODE for WOMEN:
Plain dark dress or suit with average neckline
under graduation gown (not to exceed length
of gown); navy or black shoes, flat or low heels
(NO tennis shoes, boots, sandals, or flip flops);
minimal jewelry (avoid large dangling earrings);
no purses/handbags, etc.
DRESS CODE for MEN:
White dress shirt and dark tie; dark dress pants
– blue or black (no blue jeans); dark dress shoes
(no topsiders, tennis shoes, cowboy boots, flip
flops or sandals, etc.); suit coats may be worn, but it may be too warm.
To remove wrinkles from the gown follow the instructions provided by vendor. Tassels on the cap are to be worn on the right side of the cap. Caps and gowns should always be worn in a dignified way. Both men and women should always wear cap STRAIGHT on their head, parallel to the floor. A Georgia Piedmont Tech representative will adjust this for you if you are not wearing the cap correctly. The cap is an essential part of the academic attire and should be worn at all times.
